Taking to her Twitter to share her amazement, she uploaded several pictures of her birthday treats. As she headed into her office she was greeted with a surprise lunch by her colleagues at The Honest Company with the help of her daughters. However, the rest of her ensemble was completely spot on. Dressed in a bright pink blazer, turquoise jeans, a white top and nude coloured wedges, she smiled as she accepted his offerings as she held her coffee in hand. The Honest Company entrepreneur wore a fitted black blazer over a lime green shirt. At least the stunning star looked fresh for her meeting, as she had just returned from a trip to Korea. But the surprises didn't stop there for the mother-of-two. She stepped out in Los Angeles wearing completely unflattering harem-style slacks. And unfortunately, the Good Luck Chuck star made another sartorial faux pas as her slacks were covered in streaks of white. Jessica, who is celebrating reaching her 30th milestone birthday, looked touched when presented with a big balloon and flowers as she arrived at her office in Santa Monica. Her simple patent leather heels and business-like handbag added to the illusion of professionalism. Her bright blue nail varnish helped to add some much needed drama to the outfit. Even though plenty of shoppers are pleased to buy a Mother's Day gift online, few indicated that they would be getting Mom a gift that might enable her to do the same. Just 13 percent of respondents to PriceGrabbers' 2012 Mother's Day Shopping Survey said they'd be buying a computer, tablet, smartphone, or ereader for their mother this year. Not surprisingly, flowers were the top Mother's Day gift choice, with 43 percent of respondents telling PriceGrabber that's what they'll be getting for Mom in a couple of weeks, followed by gift cards (22 percent), clothing and accessories (17 percent), jewelry (15 percent), dinner or other date-type gifts (15 percent), and computers and electronics (13 percent). More than 50 percent of those survey said they plan to buy a Mother's Day gift online, with the majority saying free shipping was the biggest enticement to do so, following by price cuts and coupons. The price comparison service, part of Experian, polled more than 4,000 online shoppers from March 26 to April 9 about their plans for Mother's Day, which falls on May 13 this year. Those respondents who do plan on getting at tech-type present lean strongly towards tablets like Apple's iPad. "PriceGrabber anticipates that shoppers will seek out the perfect gift for under $100 this year and keep it traditional with flowers, gift cards and clothing," Graham Jones, general manager of PriceGrabber, said. Rudasill applied for a job there in December, and shortly after found out Brown was looking to sell the business. "We cook the same way," Brown said of he and Rudasill. It's affecting me a lot lately. He's been thinking more of his family, including his daughter and two grandsons, and realizing that he can take it easy, now that he's leaving the business in good hands. "Being a florist is an intimate job. That affects me the most. In a strange way, you're happy to do it; you know what they'd want, what their family wants. Brown thinks of his clients and friends, and the fact that in Lima he's been blessed to say many folks are both. "I know I'm saying this with tears in my eyes, but it's been a lot of fun. Thirty-seven years ago, the business moved to its current location at the corner of Woodlawn Avenue and Shawnee Road. Brown is proud to say he's done wedding flowers of daughters of mothers for whom he did wedding flowers originally. A year later, after apprenticing for two other florists, bought the existing business. While it is the thing he has known nearly all his adult life, a florist's job is a bittersweet thing for a man who will turn 72 in July. Loyal clients will receive the same quality and service they've come to know at the shop, Brown said. Just as regular restaurant customers come to know how something will arrive from the kitchen, a florists' customers know they can rely on a product the same way. The family currently lives in Delphos, but is planning a move closer to the shop. |

When Amy Pauley-Fleming graduated from Washington State University with an accounting finance degree, it didn't take long for her to discover that a desk job wasn't her style. Customers won't see high maintenance green grass at Flowers to the Brim. She wanted low maintenance and low water consumption, so she planned to use xeriscaping techniques, featuring commercial grade weedblock covered with rock and carefully selected plants that are well suited to the desert-like summers. She installed an efficient drip system for watering all of her landscaping plants. Amy also developed a plan to manage water runoff on the site. Local businesses are excited to work with Flowers to the Brim, too. Flowers to the Brim is also active in the community. "I wear five different hats, but where I like to be is out there growing," said Amy, who eventually bought out her partners. Greenhouse temperatures are managed manually, and are not allowed to dip below 50 to 55 degrees at night, dependant upon the plants in a particular greenhouse. Corcoran contracted with Flowers to the Brim several years ago to spruce up the park for the AppleSox season. "It has been awesome doing business with Amy from Flowers to the Brim for a long time," said Charlotte Mayo, general manager of the Holiday Inn Express on North Wenatchee Ave. Sun-loving plants are planted next, followed by shade-loving plants and bedding plants. That was eight years ago, and Clarke has been with the business ever since. "They add color and a unique, vibrant character to the ballpark, and we get continuous compliments from our fans," Corcoran said. "We're on track this year for production," she said. Weary travelers can expect to be cheerfully greeted again this year. It has also partnered with Jim Corcoran, owner of the Wenatchee AppleSox. "We lease Paul Thomas Sr. "We built this retail space from the ground up," Amy said. "We stood gazing out the window of the newly finished garden center," said Gae Re Clarke, Amy's personal assistant. "I turned to Amy and said, 'Oh, my gosh, Amy, how does it feel to be standing in the middle of your dream?' " Clarke said. Staffing requirements for the business fluctuate all year long. The approaching spring brings a rush of work to get thingsplanted in the greenhouses. Timing is everything when it comes to planting, and different plants must be planted at different times, with the goal of being ready to sell at the appropriate time in the spring. The following year the new garden center was completed and was being full of products. I can explain to her what I want our landscaping to look like and she can make it happen. The weather is out of Amy's control, but deciding what to sell in the store is completely up to her and her staff. On the south side of the lot, Amy has built an area she uses for different purposes all through the year. It's really a big hit with families, Amy said. Her father grows the pumpkins on his farm near Pasco and trucks them up in the fall. Amy began planting in her greenhouses the second week of February. It very much impacts the consumer — whether they want to be out working in the yard or not. "We're trying to find more unique gifts suited to gardeners you can't find anywhere else," she said. Apparently, however she treated it, she just treated it right. She was very anxious at first because she hadn't had an orchid before, and she ended up just having the knack.
