Meg Loncharic: Catholic Charities Ball set for April 27
Allburn Florists will create a colorful feeling of spring for the 17th annual Catholic Charities Ball "Blessings in Bloom," scheduled April 27 at the Bayfront Convention Center. Wendy Weber is chairing the event again this year, with a committee that includes Aimee Colaizzo, Sheila Baldwin, Mary Alice Doolin, Maureen Dunn, Jessica Hancock, Mary Ann Kupniewski, Abby Lechner, Bill Lillis, Mary Maxwell, Kirsten McCain, Emma Lee McCloskey, Barb McNamara, Allison Roberts, Annalyn Shuttleworth, Jim Toohey Jr. She has given many volunteer hours to this endeavor, instructing and matching experienced dancers with celebrity contestants. Allen Hawthorne will be dancing with Marnie Mead Oberle, Erie Times-News and Lake Erie LifeStyle; Ron McCorkle with Monica Lewis, Saint Vincent Health Center; and John Orr with Vanessa Herring of WICU-12 News. Judges are award-winning ballroom dancers Steve and Kathy Findlay, and Debbie DeAngelo, who is a member of USADance. with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. A sit-down dinner with complimentary wine is set for 7:30, followed by the awards program and dance competition. Ruth and Jay Alberstadt are serving as host circle chaircouple. The Chosen Few Band from Cleveland will entertain from 9 until 11:30 p. Others who will be in the spotlight include Lisa Hurst and Harvey Insler; Lori Barber and Tim Shuttleworth; Tracy Balczon and Tom Kennedy; Mitch Montgomery and Molly Martin; Dan Reese and Mary Ita Power; and Jessica Kunz and Jeff Evans. On April 30, Shoop will attend for the second time the Emerald Ball in Los Angeles, Calif. It's a black-tie-optional event with valet parking and money bar, but the cr"me de la cr"me is the entertainment. All nine celebrity dance contestants along with their experienced dance partners will be doing the swing dance. In preparation for the contest, two dance lessons were given in the ballroom of Emmy Nolen's home in Southland subdivision by dance instructor Connie Shoop. The evening gets under way at 6:30 p. There's also a silent auction with more than 40 items, including a Brig Niagara day sail, exquisite jewelry, inspiring art, children's packages and Mother's Day gifts.
