Area Florists Gearing up for Mother's Day "Yeah, it's crazy," said Randy Verhasselt, owner of Evolutions in Design. "The roses are great for moms, wives, girlfriends, maybe for that neighbor that did a favor and you would like to say thank you," said Ann Dahlke, a volunteer for the conservatory. Fresh flowers are the most popular purchase, garden plants are a close second, but no matter what they're selling, their clients are very happy to be buying. The sale is one of the main fundraisers for their scholarship program which helps children and adults pursue instrument and voice lessons. They expect to sell about 900 dozen roses between Friday and Saturday. "Weeks of preparation, our alley is full of plants, we have plants all over the store," said Verhasselt. This weekend, they expect to do as much business as they do during the entire month of January. "The nice thing about Mother's Day is, everybody's happy about sending something to mom. "We give away 255 scholarships annually totalling over $50,000," said Dahlke. The store has extra staff on hand and employees are working late to handle all of their orders. On the other side of town, the Wausau Conservatory of Music is holding their annual rose sale. So whether you want to get mom an extravagant arrangement, or you'd like to lead to a good cause, you have options, however, you better act fast. |
